Cultural Aspects of Families & Children (SOC202)

Course Description

The family unit is an important developmental building block and an influential societal institution This course explores contemporary families and will focus on how identities including race, class, gender, age, sexuality, gender, religion, and nationality shape the organization, behaviors, attitudes, and experiences of family life and child rearing. Throughout the course students will also examine how individuals’ family lives are impacted by broader social systems and better understand their own family experiences.

Prerequisite: Eligibility for ENG101 or higher
